The Australian Centre for Geomechanics is a not-for-profit mining research centre based at The University of Western Australia, Perth. The Geoscience Act, Act 100 of 1993, established the CGS in its present form. It is a collaborative project between academia, industry and government that aims to characterize the stress patterns and to understand the stress sources.
