This 5 day module is a general theoretical paper covering basic strata control theory applicable in all types of mining environments, surface as well as underground. The theoretical strata control knowledge required here is thus of a fundamental nature, and is not specific to any particular type of mining. Topics include:
- Stress & strain,
- Constitutive behaviour,
- Rock properties,
- Stress in rock & rockmasses,
- Rockmass properties.
- Geotechnical characteristics,
- Rock & rockmass behaviour,
- Fundamental principles of mining layouts and mining layout design,
- Mining support and mining support design,
- Investigation and evaluation,
- Drilling and blasting,
- Legal compliance and general management
- Investigation techniques,
- Rock breaking,
- Surface and environmental effects,
- Mining strategies in difficult circumstances
