Dear Presidents of the ISRM National Groups

As you may already know from the announcement on the ISRM website and from the organizers, the 2020 ISRM International Symposium - EUROCK2020, to be held in Trondheim, Norway, was cancelled. This was a difficult decision taken by the EUROCK2020 Organizing Committee in constant dialogue with the ISRM. In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic and of the strong restrictions to travelling, this became an inevitable and also a wise decision.

The Organizing Committee and the ISRM agreed that the conference proceedings, including several of the keynote lectures and more than 200 high-quality peer-review papers originally submitted for EUROCK2020 will be published in the OnePetro.org platform, subject to the authors' consent.

As per the previous email sent by this Secretariat on 29 July, the ISRM meetings scheduled for the days before EUROCK2020 in Trondheim have also been cancelled. The Council, Board and Commissions meetings will take place as video-conferences during October.

Dear SANIRE Members,

It is with a very sad heavy heart that we announce the passing of Louis Bronkhorst. Louis contributed throughout his career towards the fraternity in a technical and mentoring manner. Louis touched numerous lives throughout his time on earth. 

The SANIRE family sends warm and loving wishes to the Bronkhorst family during these tough times.

Further details with regards to the funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.

SANIRE Council is pleased to announce that there will be no membership fee increase for next financial year (2021).

Covid-19 has negatively impacted the financial wellbeing of most mining companies and individuals including SANIRE. SANIRE is always aiming to assist its members and it is for this reason that the SANIRE membership fee will not be increased for a third consecutive year. The membership fees for the FY 2021 are as follows:

Your SANIRE membership fee also contributes to your ISRM (International Society of Rock Mechanics) membership fee equating to approximately 25% of the payable fee and the rest towards SANIRE. The membership fees assist SANIRE with administrational costs, which are based on the number of members within the organization.

Currently, there are 222 members on SANIRE’s membership database, who have outstanding membership fees for more than 12 months. All members with a debt status exceeding 12 months, will be moved to non-SANIRE members, to reduce any further negative financial impact on SANIRE with regards to ISRM and administrational costs. A non-SANIRE member will become active again once all the outstanding fees have been recovered.
