Enquiry:

I would like to know what the process entails, in order to obtain the AREC, as I do not see any clear guidelines or contacts on the website?

Response:

Good day Jaco

Thank you for your enquiry. SANIRE is not the custodian of the AREC and therefore we would recommend that you contact the University of Witwatersrand who are the custodians of the AREC. The University of Witwatersrand will be able to assist with the process and courses required.

Suggestion:

The requirements for SCO practicals such as blasting certificate where will guys working for consulting companies get time to do that. Please reconsider that decision.

Response:

Dear SANIRE Member

Thank you for your suggestion. Please consult your local branch with a full explanation on the current requirements for entry to the Practical exams, as these requirements have been discussed on numerous public platforms within SANIRE and a consensus has been reached. Your local branch Chairman will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Query:

Hi, may I please communicate with the one who did the model answer for the Coal May 2016 Exam, the answer on Q1 no 2 , should it not be calculated using the width (6m) because that's what is taken out instead of the width of the pillar?

Response:

Dear SANIRE Member

Thank you for your suggestion. Please would you make contact with SANIRE Council directly, so that we can address your concerns, as we do not give out personal information of examiners on a public platform.

Query: Hi, I'd like to find out how long does it normally take to receive the practical results from the day the practical is held? Also, by what means are the results communicated by.

Response:

Dear SANIRE Member

Thank you for your suggestion, we like hearing from our members.

The Strata Control Officer Practical Exams are now hosted by the local SANIRE branches who run the entire process. The examiners and moderators are practicing Rock Engineering Professionals that work at an employer full time and therefore assist with these exams in their private time, showing remarkable interest in giving back to the industry. This makes it difficult from both the SANIRE branch’s and SANIRE Council to commit on dates of results as these exams are marked and moderated in due course to ensure transparency and fairness. Consultation with your local SANIRE branch on a regular basis should give you an idea on the current status of the process.
