Suggestion: I would like to know, why the SCO/RMC practical results are not released a day after the exam?

Please note that SANIRE releases the results after all the administration processes have been completed and checked. This process takes time considering the number of candidates from both Strata Control Officer and Rock Engineering Practical exams. We will continue to attempt to stream line the process in the future.

Suggestion:

An annual schedule of SANIRE quarterly meetings at the regions needs to be available at the beginning of each year. This will be applicable to the AGM. It gives us time to prepare ourselves.

Thank you for your suggestion. The SANIRE council will in future propose dates for major events planned in 2019, subject to their confirmation closer to the time.
 
In terms of SANIRE branch meetings, branches are managed and run by Branch Chairman who dictate Branch meetings and technical visits within their respective areas based on numerous factors.
 
Council has created an online platform whereby any SANIRE Member can upload an event. This new is still in its infancy stage and therefore will hopefully grow as the preferred method of event notification, which will in terms allow you to plan you visits to branch meetings in advance as a result of more notice of the meetings.

I would like to know what influences implementation of practical exam fees. How effective is this concept of theory first before attempting practicals and when does it started, because for years we being told that while other people having a privilege to do practicals for without no theory and especially certain race (I'm not a racist). The fairness of practicals if my RE or MY father examines me is there no conflict of interest based on Sanire values Honesty, Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability and Transparency.

Q1: What influences implementation of practical exam fees – Who ever needs to set and host the exam inquires some sort of cost which needs to be covered. Previously these cost were covered and allocated to mine and departmental  budgets. With the changes to the economic climate and the mining industry budget cuts this requires the costs to be carried elsewhere.
Examiners voluntarily give of their time, they are currently not (and never have been) reimbursed at all for their time or traveling at the exam,  nor for setting the questions. This is not a requirement but a service provided to the industry and all candidates, to allow and promote the advancement of the rock engineering discipline.  Employers are typically happy to reimburse a candidate for sitting an exam which advances them towards their qualification. This is only done once as employers expect candidates to prepare for exams and pass. Candidates therefore only pay for their exam fees on multiple attempts.
Candidates must understand that this is an examination for a qualification and proper preparation should be made for this. Hopefully the exam fee will assist to encourage the candidate to prepare for exams.
 
Q2: How effective is this concept of theory first before attempting practicals – Theory lays the foundation for understanding and then the practical application thereof, this is true to all industries. For example; medical, aviation, law. They all require a pass of the theory component before testing of the practical application and ability. It is very effective by showing understanding of the theory component before being allowed to move on to the practical component, therefore all the papers combined would lay the foundation for understanding the practical application thereof.  The natural learning process starts with Knowledge and Understanding which lead to Implementation and Design, hence the RE Papers are also set in that fashion, Theory (P1), Application (P2) and Specialisation (P3).  In this way the candidate will have time in preparing him/herself whilst being employed and doing the underground shifts where the application is learnt and experienced.  This puts the candidate in a much better position to pass the practical exam.
Based on leading practices and  previous  experience, the intention is to continually improve on the system and qualification by aligning it with other industries, therefore changes were made to the rules which require the completion of the theory before moving on to the practical, to ensure there is proper understanding of all candidates in the system.
At the time when the rules were in place where the practical could be done before achieving all theory papers, all candidates in the system followed these rules.  Doing the practical first is not a privilege and in no way means that a candidate may practice but will still require that theory must be passed before achieving the full ticket.

Morals and ethics would dictate that all candidates be examined by an independent examiner. This is typically why examiners exam in pairs, to eliminate personal bias. Sanire is not aware of breaches of the rules. It would be appreciated if any such evidence could be made available for further investigation.
Sanire together with the COM and regulatory authorities  intends to continually improve on the system to ensure well qualified and experienced rock engineers enter the working environment, this is to ensure the health and safety of all mining personal.

My query is about the Strata Control Practical exam. I would like to know a procedure of which date and venue for hosting practical exam is posted online because for me most of time when check online for date and venue I don't find it on time. Please help. Thanks.

Please consult with your local SANIRE branch with regards to dates and schedules. Please check the website on a regular basis as most of the branches will be finalising there dates and venues within the next two weeks.

Thank you very much Jannie Maritz and Andre Esterhuizen for the extra help you gave me so I can partake the Strata Control Practical Exam at Twickenham Hackney Shaft on 23rd March 2018 after I requested as this is not organizing in my country, Democratic Republic of Congo, so far.
Thank you very much, as well, Adam Copper and Easavani Wessels for the great assistance with regards to the new registration process and for the hospitality.
