Query: Is it possible to write a Rock mechanics exam for open Pit mining if you're not in possession of a Strata Control certification?

Hloniphani

Response:

Good Day Hloniphani

No, it is not possible. The Strata Control Certificate is a pre-requisite for the Rock Engineering Exams including practical experience which you will only be able to gain as a practicing Strata Control Officer.

Query: Good day, I would like to inquire about the Rock Mechanics Results. I see the Strata Control Results are out but we haven't received the Rock Mechanics results, is there a specific reason for this?

Siyabulela Masoka

Response

The ruling of not being able to see the scripts is per instruction from Minerals Council whom are administrating the written exams.

Perusals of the Rock Engineering Practical exams will be available as of the next examination in 2019.

Question: Can I write Rock Mechanics papers with only Strata Control theory? As I heard there are people writing without the full Strata Control ticket?

Response

Good Day SANIRE Member

Thank you for raising your question/concern.

The rules of examinations clearly state that you require a FULL Strata Control Officer Certificate (SCO) as a prerequisite for the Rock Engineering Theory Exams. In terms of FULL, this means the theory section and practical section completed and passed.

We are concerned that rumours and allegations are floating around with regards to your statement. We would request that if you are aware of any individuals which are currently conducting this behaviour that you anonymously inform the SANIRE council so that we correct this behaviour and ensure fair treatment to all members.

Thanking you

Query:

We are no longer getting the Past question Papers and Memos. Is there any reason for this?
The Memos where so helpful as a guideline on how we should have answered the questions.
RMC Paper 3.1, Paper 3.2, Paper 3.3 and Paper3.4.
Only RMC paper1 is available.

Please assist and advise.

Response:

Dear SANIRE member

Thank you for your suggestion with regards to the statement below.

As SANIRE council we will publish the question papers when we receive them from the examiners. In some cases this takes longer than expected as all the examiners conduct this on a voluntary basis whilst working full time jobs. SANIRE council recently made a decisions that no memorandum’s will be place on the website in order to assist the candidates with problem solving the exam papers instead of “spotting” memorandums only.

Thanking you
